Quinn discusses what Karlsson-less Sharks might look like, and Bordeleau’s ‘incredible opportunity’

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 10:11:40 GMT

SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks coach David Quinn said he’s starting to get excited about next season following the team’s hectic week of transactions but knows more moves could be on the way, including the departure of Erik Karlsson.More than a week after he won his third career Norris Trophy – and reiterated his desire to play for a Stanley Cup-contending team – Karlsson remains a Shark as general manager Mike Grier continues to chip away on a possible trade involving the all-star defenseman. Karlsson is coming off a 101-point season.Such a seismic move would figure to have a dramatic impact on how the Sharks generate offense, particularly from the back end with no true heir apparent to take over those heavy minutes and play that same dynamic role.Quinn, entering his second year as San Jose’s coach, has thought about what the Sharks might look like without Karlsson but doesn’t want to harp on something that hasn’t happened yet — and may not for a while.“I’m not the ge...

Timberwolves were where Naz Reid wanted to be all along, even if he’s a backup

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 10:11:40 GMT

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Naz Reid might well have found a bigger role had he hit the open market. Staying in Minnesota just felt right. The Timberwolves had no interest in letting him leave, even with all that precious salary cap space committed to their big men.“I started my career here. I wanted to continue my career here. I’ve gotten better each and every year here as well, so it only made sense,” Reid said. “I didn’t want to go anywhere else.”After eschewing unrestricted free agency for a three-year, $42 million contract with the Wolves last week, Reid participated in a news conference on Wednesday at the Southside Village Boys and Girls Club in Minneapolis, one of his favorite places to volunteer. With almost $90 million — two-thirds of the $136 million salary cap — earmarked for three natural post players in 2023-24, Reid will start the season as a backup behind Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns as the Wolves hit the reset button on their against-the-grain experiment with playing t...
