Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:07:06 GMT

For as long as creators have been around, the fan-creator relationship has been mostly a one-way street. Fans adore their favorite YouTubers or TikTok stars by giving them views, streams, ad revenue, and by purchasing merchandise. Yet as much as the creator wants to give back to their fans, the opportunities are truly limited.Luckily, there is now a new way for fans to be rewarded for their support.  Knaq, an innovative Web3 loyalty program, has created a brand new reward system for scrolling on social media. Rewards are actually directly linked to engagement, such as liking, commenting, and viewing posts. Now by supporting their favorite content creators, users get something back!Since reward systems have become part of the digital generation’s daily lives, Knaq has merged something completely familiar with the everyday consumer. Yet, at the same time, the usage of blockchain technology, NFTs, and reward tokens make Knaq something totally groundbreaking. The mechanism behind Knaq is...

Huge dam proposed for Santa Clara County hit with new setback

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:07:06 GMT

In the latest stumble for plans to build a massive $2.8 billion dam in Southern Santa Clara County near Pacheco Pass, a judge has ruled that the Santa Clara Valley Water District violated state environmental laws over the dam’s preliminary geological work. The ruling could lead to further delays on the project, which is proposed to be the largest new dam constructed in the Bay Area since 1998, when Los Vaqueros Reservoir in Contra Costa County was built. The district, based in San Jose, is seeking to build a 320-foot-high earthen dam on the North Fork of Pacheco Creek in the rugged canyons about 2 miles north of Highway 152 near the border of Henry W. Coe State Park. The district hopes to take water it now stores nearby in the massive San Luis Reservoir and pipe it to a new Pacheco reservoir, filling it during wet years. But the project has faced major hurdles and may never be built. It has tripled in cost since 2018 due to unstable geology found in the area. It has seen its const...

TikTok sues Montana over law banning the app

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:07:06 GMT

By Amy Beth Hanson | Associated PressHELENA, Mont. — Social media company TikTok Inc. filed a lawsuit Monday seeking to overturn Montana’s first-in-the-nation ban on the video sharing app, arguing the law is an unconstitutional violation of free speech rights and is based on “unfounded speculation” that the Chinese government could access users’ data. The lawsuit by TikTok itself follows one filed last week by five content creators who made the same arguments, including that the state of Montana has no authority to take action on matters of national security. Both lawsuits were filed in federal court in Missoula.Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte signed the bill Wednesday and the content creators’ lawsuit was filed hours later. The law is scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1.TikTok has not shared and would not share U.S. user data with the Chinese government and has taken measures to protect the privacy and security of its users, including storing all U.S. use...

Kurtenbach: Super Bowl 60 is coming to the Bay and San Jose — not San Francisco — should host

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:07:06 GMT

Santa Clara is going to host another Super Bowl. And this time, it should host the whole week’s worth of festivities. On Monday, NFL owners awarded Levi’s Stadium Super Bowl 60, to be played in Feb. 2026. It’s a bit of a surprise that the Big Game is returning to the Bay, as Super Bowl 50, held back in 2016, left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.Bad planning, bad traffic, bad weather (the sun was out, toasting upper-deck fans), and a downright awful game all led to the widespread belief that Levi’s Stadium’s first Super Bowl would be its last.Surely, the 49ers and the NFL will try to fix the mistakes of that Super Bowl week. But the easiest solution isn’t using Chase Center or Oracle Park for events this time — it’s hosting the week’s ever-growing list of festivities near the stadium.Super Bowl LX should be the Silicon Valley Super Bowl, the San Jose Fiesta, the South Bay Celebration.Sign installers continue dolling up Levi’s...
